Two Steps Forward

Is an initiative of The CCP Foundation that seeks to blend the principles of community organizing with the spirit of the 1960s era counterculture to support people with developmental disabilities to be involved in the everyday life of the Stillwater community.

We base our vision on the work of John O'Brien, particularly the Five Essential Accomplishments that support valued experiences and build community competence. Here in Stillwater, we are focusing our efforts on growing relationships and providing experiences. Towards these ends we will organize and facilitate activities in a way that encourages potential leaders, identifies needs, recognizes opportunities and brings about coordinated action.

The foundation works directly, by engaging in activities that help organize and facilitate action; indirectly, by encouraging and supporting the activities of community organizations and others. We do this by providing grants, technical assistance and seed money funds to help launch certain activities.

Project Guidelines - To Apply

The CCP Foundation hopes that in a few years, as our funding ceases to exist, that an impact can be made on the lives of our Stillwater residents.

First, if you are proposing an idea we would prefer to have a discussion with you about your potential idea or ideas, please call or email. Please consider the following as you think about your idea or project:

1. How will your project endure? Is it a sustainable idea?

(How will the participants grow in relationships?)

2. What will you do after the first year for funding?

3. How are you adapting the community?

(How will the participants share in ordinary places?)

4. What other community resources can be leveraged for this idea?

5. Long-term, who will be running this project?

Second, The Foundation works to Build Community by providing the following:

1. Gatherings for education, networking, support, or brainstorming

2. Funding or providing opportunities for those with developmental disabilities:

social, educational, job support/creation, volunteering, friendship building,

community participation, living a regular life
